What we believe

We believe and trust in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

St Bartholomew’s is an evangelical, Anglican Church in Binley.

We believe in the good news of Jesus Christ who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, is the way to know God,

He shows us the truth of who God is,

and He offers us the life of God by His Spirit.

We affirm the Christian faith as uniquely revealed in the bible and summarised in the catholic creeds of the Church :

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

The Nicene Creed is a more detailed summary of what the whole Church believes about the great doctrines of the Christian faith. It begins with the statement: ‘We believe …’ The Nicene Creed uses the same threefold structure as the Apostles’ Creed but goes into more depth and detail. It was first adopted at the Council of Nicaea in AD 325 by a gathering of bishops.

The PCC of St Bartholomew’s affirm the CEEC basis of faith.
